Horror Sub-Genre Shortlist

After researching horror sub-genres we decided which three would be the most realistic to use for our trailer. After some discussion we came down to Paranormal, Pyschological and Killer. We chose these three based on several factors for example the facilitiesand equipment we have access to.

The following horror genres are our chosen three sub-genres which we have decided to analysis into further detail to then determine which one is the best to use for our trailer and the ancillary tasks.

Paranormal: We chose this sub-genre of horror because everyone in the group likes this type of horror and it is the most common type of horror most people we know watches therefore if we chose this specific genre we would have access to a audience who watches this type of horror. Also we liked the idea of using props like dolls and childrens toys as this would probably be the antagonist if we used this genre. Also because we live in a sub-urban area this would follow conventions of this genre as most paranormal films take place in family homes in the suburbs or in the countryside but there is farmland near where we live which we would have access to.

Pyschological: We chose this sub-genre of horror because characters are a key part for this type of horror as the way they react and their facial and body language is what grabs the audiences attention and also a good storyline with creative thinking helps make the pyschological effect for the audience, therefore this would be a good sub-genre for our group to use as we could use a large variety of creative skills to make the audience focus.

Killer: We chose this sub-genre of horror because we discussed about how we could use different props as weapons like knives and saws however after discussing various killer genre horror films we realised that safety may become a problem but we still thought that this genre would be good to use for our trailer because sound and costume is a large part of this type of horror and we believed that this is one of our groups strong points.
