Film Narrative
In today's lesson we also wrote an overview for the films plot so we actually know what will happen in the film so when we come to produce the trailer we know how the structure of the story goes which we can apply into the trailer. We discussed different theories we could apply to the narrative like final girl theory, todorov theory and barthes narrative codes. Also when discussing the narrative we want to follow psychological horror conventions and horror genre conventions as well, however we also thought that if we add aspects into the narrative that challenge the conventions we might gain a larger audience.

We also went through the mindmap of the film trailer which we all shared ideas on and ensured that all the different sections were in order. This is because we decided to add Todorov's theory into the trailer because throughout researching psychological horrors I found that most horror films follow the same convention of using equilibrium in the film trailer and film itself. An example of using todorov theory is in ''The Visit'' Trailer.
In this trailer we see how the non-diegetic sound matchs the emotion of the situation as the children and the mother are in the car enjoying a car journey which happens everyday in real life. However we see the trailer develop as the children are introduced to new characters which appear to be there grand father and grand mother. However through dialogue we hear that at 9:30 the children must stay in there rooms, but we see that there grandparents act strangely after 9:30 at night. This is the disruption in the trailer, next is the realisation and again dialogue tells us that the children are becoming suspecious as the girl says ''whats wrong with grandma''. Through fast paced shots we see how the situation gets worse and the children are now aware that there is a problem. But we dont see the final parts of the todorov theory which is restoring the equilibrium and when the equilibrium has been restored. This is because by keeping this part of the film hidden makes the audience more interested in the film and they are more excited to actually see the film and found out what happens.
We also discussed
| I looked up the definition of oppression and we all decided it was very relevant to the narrative. |
| I looked for other potential names on Thesaurus with the same meaning to see if there were any other potential title names. |
