Editing Practice

In today's lesson we went on the iMac's to complete some editing practice. We decided to do this as we though if we completed some practice editing we would re-familiar ourselves with Final Cut Pro's features so when we come to film we wouldn't have to waste editing time working out how to use the editing software. Also by completing this editing practice we wanted to get an idea of what features we could use and adapt them to shots we are going to film. Lastly we wanted to discover new techniques which will make our trailer look different and follow horror conventions.

Flashing Effect
The flashing effect would be good for an action scene when the protagonist and antagonist have met and the violence is occurring as the flashing conveys confusion and therefore this would be effective in the montage of shots which we want to use.

Slow Motion Effect
The slow motion effect would be good to show male gaze theory in the trailer, this could be used for Maddie the protagonist to show sex appeal and we thought about doing this for a hair flick as this is common to do to sexualise a character. Also this slow motion will show facial expression and some body language and we thought about using this when the protagonist sees Delaney the main antagonist or one of the cult members.

Colour Effect
The colour effects would be good to show the emotion of the situation and create an atmosphere, because the colour blue we used on the camera shot shows a feeling of sadness and coldness. Also this is good for how the audience view the camera shot as they may see it as more scary or shocking.

Dissolve Transition
The dissolve transition we considered using for the beginning of the trailer to match todorov's theory as at the beginning of the trailer we want the equilibrium to be present so the dissolve transition shows peace and the mood is calm.

Camera Transition
This camera transition we used was really good and suitable for horror trailer because it looks like it is from a CCTV camera and this gives it a sense of confusion and also this transition matches the conventions.

Blurred Transition
This blurred transition helps gives a sense of calm and peace in the trailer and should be used to show the personality of Delaney and show that she is unpredictable and psychotic.
